Mexican Football Federation Sues Kalshi Over Liga MX Names
The Mexican Football Federation, or FMF, filed a lawsuit against Kalshi in the Southern District of New York on September 22, 2026.
FMF is asking the court to stop Kalshi from using the Liga MX trademark and club names in its prediction markets. The federation is also seeking damages, including profits it claims Kalshi earned from the alleged infringement.
FMF argues that the use of Liga MX branding could make customers believe Kalshi is officially connected with the league or its clubs. In the complaint, FMF stated:
Kalshi’s market rules designate FMF’s data as the facts that determine whether a wager wins or loses.
The dispute began on July 17, 2026, when FMF sent Kalshi a cease-and-desist letter. Kalshi later removed some logos and added disclaimers but continued using the Liga MX and club names.
Kalshi argues that its use of the names qualifies as nominative fair use and is needed to identify the subject of its markets. FMF disagrees and says the company should stop using the protected names.
The federation is seeking temporary, preliminary and permanent injunctions against Kalshi.
